NORDLIGHT -A Deep Dive [2009]

Many of you people in the music loving crowd do know the names Day Din and Radisnak.
Well Nordlight then is now the ambient project of these two trance experts, just developed for you being too exhausted to stay on the main floor after dancing around to Day Din's liveact.

Within this dreamy and relaxing sound you can lose your mind in spacious atmospheres, developing moods and recreational reflections born by two masterminds in the Glamour Studios family.

All of you will for sure remember the two ambient tracks on the last Day Din album, one of them an outstanding remix of Vibrasphere's hit 'Tierra Azul'. Both tracks seemed to be just overwhelming pieces of music but only created as an addition for a great trance album. But what a big misestimation! From where these sounds came from there are many more! Here you can listen to ideas and sound collages escaping from tricky convolutions of these two musical brains.
Just dream and enjoy while this outstanding release by Spin Twist Records will serve as proof of this statement!

HUNZ –Thoughts that Move [2009]

Put Immoor and Thom Yorke in a Blender and you have Hunz. Brisbane, Australian Hunz is back on singing duty, returning to his roots and producing his music and finally releasing his second album Thoughts that move.

When Victims Fight is a manifest of his outstanding talent; the crisp, poignant beatwork and evocative synth pops and glitches are reinvented when layered between Hunz' emotive voice. Somewhere between Radiohead, Telefon tel aviv and Kate Bush, his music is a testament to pop music and originality. A visionary, he created every facet of this album to be regarded as a whole, from his soulful music, to his award-winning video production to his surrealist art. Hunz fills a crevasse in modern pop music with his honesty, fragility and innovation. A must album to own!

MACLEAN -Talker [2009]

I was able to listen to a lot of new music during my vacation but i have to admit that this release from Vancouver, BC
Canadian native band Maclean was always the album i was going back to. Talker is Macleans 2nd following their 2007 Hang This On Your Wall that was very well received.

On this latest effort our Canadians boys went all the way! From Interpol guitar sounds to Coldplay style ballads, this album is a true proof of their evolution as a band. Solid lyrics accompagnied by great music. This album is definetly the Top Canadian Indie release of the year, and most probably the best of 2009. Be the lookout for these guys in your neighborhood as i will for sure!

REVERIE SOUND REVUE -Reverie Sound Revue (2009)

Reverie Sound Revue formed in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, in January 2002. After releasing an EP in 2002, the band parted ways in 2004 to pursue other callings. Lisa Lobsinger toured as a member of Broken Social Scene, and other members of RSR earned degrees in mathematics, engineering, electronics, architecture and art.

In late 2005, inspired to make the album they were unable to make while together, they began writing new songs and exchanging ideas via e-mail as members were spread between Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and Montreal. Instruments were recorded individually during the summer of 2006 in Calgary, vocals were recorded through the winter of 2007 in Toronto, followed by a patient year of details, layers and mixes.

Worth the wait. The result is Reverie Sound Revue, a cohesive collection of 11 songs filled with guitars that chime and reflect one another in curious play, and innocent keyboard lines that tumble over a propulsive rhythm section, all tied together by Lobsinger’s haunting vocals. Whether it’s the excited beat of “You Don’t Exist If I Don’t See You”, the slow discoball twirl of “An Anniversary Away”, or the plaintive plead of “I Could Be Dangerous”, Reverie Sound Revue is music to get lost in.

JUKES -We Might Disappear [2008]

BRISTOL chanteuse and percussionist Tammie Payne releases an album under the moniker Jukes. Tammy Payne is from a new breed of folk-jazz/psychedelic folk princesses who have traversed the globe and found their own winning style. Spine-tingling guitar patterns set in motion an album that has the jarring simplicity of classic Elektra with a 21st-Century twist.

Take the best of the 70s output from the ilk of Leonard Cohen and Simon and Garfunkel, and splice them together with more contemporary wordsmiths like Badly Drawn Boy and Jeff Buckley, and you can understand the influences floating around in this album. The perfect chill-out album for your 2009 summer! Enjoy.
