THE BOXER REBELLION- Union [2009]

The Boxer Rebellion’s new album, Union, is a true tribute to indie music. this album stands completely alone from their debut album Exits that came out in 2005. On this new release, the band have now begun to explore melody and acoustic guitar riffs as well as some electronic instrumentation. As a whole, the album becomes more intriguing and beautiful because of these concepts. Album is currently at Number One in the iTunes US Alternative Chart and is moving strong on itunes UK. With no actual record label, this British rock bands album only has digital copies released via iTunes. Yet the album is outselling MGMT, Kings Of Leon and even Coldplay on iTunes.

However, the band has been banned from entering official UK charts, because their latest album has no record label.
A post on the bands blog The Boxers Rebellion boys, tell their fans that despite breaking through on iTunes charts and rating very high up, they have are not able to make charts, since there has been no physical release.

“This is a completely independent release and with no label backing, no finance, no radio play and no press in the UK, we have, with the support of (and a massive gamble taken by) iTunes… This basically means that TBR will not see benefit from this success in terms of a chart position. At this point, the possibility of pressing CD’s was not viable. Should we be penalised in the charts?” write the band on their blog.
